Mean.io: Redirect to desired route after login or signup

In Mean.io: I want to pass a 'redirect' url to BOTH login and signup so that after the login or signup instead of going to the root, the redirect url will be used.

At the first attempt, it sounded very logical but it does not work. I have spent hours on this and I can't figure out the right approach to this. Any help would be appreciated.
