sailsSocket is not defined

I'm simply trying to use sails.socket.emit() but I get this error

error: Sending 500 ("Server Error") response: ReferenceError: sailsSockets is not defined

So how do I define sails.socket? I don't find anything on this. No problem using the pubSub methods but I can't use any of sails.socket
